ThreeRays Attends the 8th Youth Symposium on Radiation Processing Industry

The 8th Youth Symposium on Radiation Processing Industry was successfully held in Changsha, Hunan from September 20 to 22, 2026. Co hosted by the Radiation Processing Special Committee of the China Isotope and Radiation Association and the Hunan Institute of Nuclear Agriculture and Chinese Materia Medica, the symposium adopted the theme “Youth Driven Radiation Innovation, Intelligence Empowering Processing”. It brought together nearly 100 young experts and technical backbones from domestic research institutes, universities and industrial enterprises, building a professional exchange platform for industry university research application collaborative innovation in the radiation processing sector.

Peng Wei, General Manager of ThreeRays (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. and Deputy Director of the Radiation Processing Special Committee, attended the event and chaired one forum session. Zuo Duwen, CTO of ThreeRays, participated in the symposium and delivered a keynote speech.

The symposium featured multiple thematic sharing sessions. More than ten young industry experts presented their latest research progress and practical industrial achievements covering hot topics including accelerator technology innovation, medical device sterilization, new material R&D, irradiation preservation of agricultural products, irradiation process optimization, Chinese herbal medicine sterilization, nuclear agronomy applications, and radiation induced mutation breeding.

At the conference, Zuo Duwen, CTO of ThreeRays, delivered a keynote report entitled Application of Uncertainty in Radiation Processing for Medical Devices. Based on the ISO 11137 series standards, the report pointed out a prevailing industry pain point: dose uncertainty assessments are mostly confined to report outputs, rather than being practically implemented for process control. Adopting the GUM (Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement) methodology, the report carried out quantitative research on full chain dose uncertainty. It proposed a dual uncertainty evaluation framework for both the dose measurement system and electron accelerator irradiation system, and identified key error sources such as environmental factors and under beam conveyor speed. The research facilitates the industry’s shift from passive testing to proactive risk control, provides technical support for scientific process parameter setting, and helps mitigate compliance risks for the release of radiation sterilized medical device products. The report also introduced ThreeRays’ high level third party dosimetry laboratory, complete suite of dosimetry measurement hardware and software platforms, as well as supporting technical service capabilities.

During the symposium, Peng Wei and Zuo Duwen held in depth discussions with experts and representatives from domestic research institutions and peer enterprises. They exchanged views on multiple subjects, including high quality development of the radiation processing industry, iteration of dosimetry and metrology technologies, R&D of irradiation equipment, implementation of quality management systems, and cultivation of young talent within the sector.
